BRAND STORY
TASTE THE WORLD, SHARE CULTURES, LEAD A QUALITY LIFE
Qingdao is the birthplace of Chinese whiskey, with a history of over a hundred years. In 1972, the former Ministry of Light Industry of China listed the 'Research on High-Quality Whiskey' as a key scientific and technological project. A dedicated research team was established, with leading domestic breweries and renowned scientific institutions undertaking the project. The chief expert of the project was Mr. Wang Haode, former Chief Engineer of Qingdao Winery. XUNZHIBAO Single Malt Aged Whisky was distilled in 1988 and separately matured in brandy casks and wine casks. It was preserved by Mr. Sun Fangxun, former Deputy Chief Engineer of Qingdao Winery, and his colleagues.
In 2021, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 'Research on High-Quality Whiskey', Mr. Sun Fangxun, former Deputy Chief Engineer of Qingdao Winery, bottled his single malt aged whisky totalling 1,300 bottles. The release was named 'XUNZHIBAO' with its label calligraphy inscribed by Mr. Song Wenjing, Vice Chairman of the Qingdao Calligraphers Association.
1. The Cultural Significance of 'XUNZHIBAO'.
The Chinese character "醺" (xūn) often describes a pleasantly tipsy state, which resonates with the sensation evoked by savoring whisky.
The interplay between the character's form and the vessel's silhouette.
The "酉" (yǒu) radical:
The left component of the character "醺", "酉" originally depicted an ancient wine vessel in Chinese script. Its form bears a striking resemblance to the pot stills used in whisky distillation—both serving as iconic vessels for holding spirits.
The "熏" (xūn) component:
The upper section of the right radical "熏" in the character "醺" visually parallels a whisky still's lyne arm—the copper pipe that bridges the pot still and condenser, guiding vapor transformation.
The "熏" (xūn) component's lower section:
The descending strokes of the "熏" radical evoke the coiled condenser of a whisky still—where fiery vapors complete their metamorphosis back to liquid, just as the character's form traces the spirit's transformative journey.
2. The fusion of character and aroma.
"Xūn" (醺): A state of gentle intoxication, describing the warm and blissful sensation after savoring fine spirits.
Whisky: A distilled spirit aged to perfection, offering layered aromas and a symphony of flavors.
"Xūn" (醺):This character not only vividly mirrors the silhouette of a whisky still, but also whispers of that golden moment of gentle intoxication. Together, they create a sensory alchemy—as if one could witness the spirit flowing from the copper still, its intoxicating aroma unfurling like calligraphy in air, drawing you into its amber embrace.
